Company Description
Shizen, a seven-unit, net-zero-energy condominium building in Northeast Portland is designed to operate 60 percent more efficiently than code. The project is being developed by Sakura Urban Concepts, with design work by architect David Spitzer.
Feng Shui, the ancient wisdom that guides the design of space so that it supports the well-being of inhabitants by promoting harmony and balance has been brought to every aspect of the Shizen Building. Every living space has been designed to enhance your health, prosperity and intentional lifestyle.
Green Credentials
Shizen is a landmark of green design.
Energy
A 23kW photovoltaic array generates one-third of Shizen’s annual electricity.
A biodiesel fueled microturbine generates the other two-thirds – plus enough heat for domestic hot water and space heating.
Water
Rainwater serves all toilet flushing within the building and provides 100% of landscape irrigation needs.
Envelope
60% of Shizen’s energy saving is achieved through its high-mass, well insulated envelope and from choosing high efficiency lights and appliances.
Shizen also utilizes Non-toxic and Efficient materials and provides Incentives for Car Sharing and Transit.
